Texas House Democrats have been invited by Caucus Chairman Trey Martinez Fischer to meet in caucus on Wednesday morning to discuss what he called a "closely coordinated policy and communications push by Republicans" on the issue of school vouchers.
“We will need to deliberate in our response as a caucus,” the chairman wrote to members of the Democratic Caucus on Monday night.
“For awareness, please know that I have invited SBOE members Rebecca Bell- Metereau and Marisa Perez-Diaz (both are confirmed) to brief us and provide additional background for the SBOE’s flip-flop on vouchers this past Friday,” he said. The Texas State Board of Education, as you know, last week dropped its opposition to vouchers but did not endorse them either.
Gov. Greg Abbott is expected to put an emphasis on vouchers when he makes his State of the State address next week.
“I also invited other stakeholders to address what is a very deliberate attempt by some Republican leaders to force this issue,” Chair Martinez Fischer said in his email to members.
